So it doesn't seem like we grabbed a Day Buchnevich etc in one of the later rounds. Doesn't feel like a lot to get excited about but we'll see how it all plays out.

Also Jan, tossing up a fresh blog at 2:30 in the AM is dedication for a bunch of guys that use most of it to argue with each other thanks!

the Brayden Schenn/Jori Lehtera cap hits are close to a wash

the Rangers got the 7th overall pick in the Stepan deal

The Flyers got the 27th pick in the draft in their deal

am I the only one who fails to see how their deals are comparable?

The Rangers got completely out of Stepan's contract

initially I was disappointed that they didn't take Middlestadt but when I heard he was headed to college for 4 years I felt better about it

they weren't the only team to pass on Vilardi, who knows why, it could be a move that will come back and bite them in the ass one day, and I'll be the first to rip them if it does.

but, going "off the board" in this case doesn't scare me that much. I think Andersson is a sure fire NHLer with all the tools.

It isn't McIlrath or Jessiman who were both picked strictly because of size, or Brendl who was picked strictly because of junior numbers and they never even had a conversation with him.

They obviously did a lot of homework on this guy and didn't want to take the chance on losing him.

Thank you for the recap of the draft Jan. Good work. I'll not subject the thread with a grad thus setting off another fire storm.

Excellent assesment Jan, especially the Andersson pick but careful your words could be lumped together to spell "bust"

"not so much that Andersson was taken but where he was selected. If he was selected 21st, no one would have blinked."-Excellent

"At seven, having dealt Derek Stepan and Antti Raanta, you need to hit a home run not aim for a single" -Holy poop excellent

Lakatos I like, the other 2 over aged players

I give Gorton a C, not trading either 1st round pick might have been his best decision at the draft

I would just love for someone to finally acknowledge that Lehtera has 4.7 million cap hit. That would make me happy.

Isn't he a 4th line player? How did it get that high

I don't think anyone compared the deal to the Stepan deal

Acknowledged but Schenn has one more year beyond the two Lehtera as at 5.15 million. Plus Philly got potentially an extra first rounder. I am not exactly comparing the teams, more comparing and contrasting.

No implying he is a bust, far from it. Will be a solid a NHL player, possibility and I hope for a lot more.

in Jan's blog, he LITERALLY SAYS "so which team made a better deal, the Rangers or the Flyers?"

Currently you're the only one beating that issue to death. But I'll engage. The Rangers traded a player like Schenn and good goalie for a d young player with off ice issues and a draft pick. Philly got a plug in and play player back. Plus potentially two first round picks. I know it's difficult to see the difference.

I would love to know why Jan brought up Schenn's cap hit in the blog but Lehtera's wasn't mentioned

I'm wondering, what does rebuild on the fly, mean exactly?

seriously, if the Rangers got a player as bad as Lehtera is back in the Stepan deal with a 4.7 mil cap hit for the next two years, you and Vin would never shut up about how dumb it is.

The flyers can afford to do that.
